Calling all adventurers! Would you like to take on the challenge of a lifetime and raise money for Aberlour at the same time?

As many of you know, Aberlour is a partner charity of The Kiltwalk which is a series of marathon walks in kilts around the country. The Kiltwalk is fast becoming one of the most popular outdoor fundraising events in the country, raising money for Scotland's children.

Now the people who brought you The Kiltwalk have got a real adventure planned - Kiltiemanjaro!

Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa and climbing it is one of the all-time personal achievements. Rising majestically from a rolling plain close to the Indian Ocean, the montain soars to a chilling 5,895m high peak (well above the cloud line). It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the World.

How would you like to trek up Kilimanjaro, Kiltwalk style. That's right - Kiltiemanjaro!

The feeling you experience whilst watching the sun rise over the vast African plains from its slopes is truly an incredible experience and something not to be missed for anybody with a sense of epic adventure.

There are already 34 brave souls signed up for this challenge in October next year. However, we've heard on the grapevine that registrations are going to reopen in January for another lucky few.

Have you got what it takes to climb Mount Kilimanajaro? Could you sign up and pledge your sponsorship money to Aberlour?

To find out what's involved and read the itinerary, visit http://www.thekiltwalk.co.uk/main/events-and-fundraising/2013-events/2013-kilimanjaro-trek.html

JOSEPH star Keith Jack made some festive dreams come true, by debuting his Christmas single at a disability respite centre run by Scotland’s children’s charity Aberlour.

The musicals star, who shot to fame as the runner up on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Any Dream Will Do, has announced his support for the charity by becoming an official celebrity ambassador.

He has recorded a version of Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and Michael Buble’s Home, which he plans to release with all proceeds donated to the organisation, which is the largest solely Scottish children’s charity.

And he wanted to make sure that the first people to hear it were the young people supported by Aberlour.

Keith, who was born in Edinburgh, said: “I am proud to be an official ambassador for Aberlour as I think the work they do in this country is amazing. It has been a pleasure to meet some of the children and young people they support, especially as so many of them love music, singing and dancing just like I do.

“Although I travel all over the UK performing in Joseph and other roles, I am very proud of my Scottish roots. To be able to make a difference to a charity which supports vulnerable young people in Scotland is very important to me.

“I hope lots of people download and buy the single when it is released and perhaps we could raise a great sum of money, which would be the best Christmas gift of all.”

Keith performed his single at Aberlour Options Fife, a service which offers short respite breaks to children with disabilities.

He also took along his technicolour dreamcoat to show the young people, who attend an after-school club at the service.

Aberlour has more than 40 services across Scotland, including full-time residential care for children who have suffered great trauma, the country’s only refuge for runaways and a unique rehab facility which keeps mothers and children together in a supported environment.

Aberlour fundraising manager Marie-Claire Jones said: ““We are delighted that our latest celebrity ambassador Keith Jack has decided to release a Christmas single in our honour.

“We want to say a big thanks to Keith for coming out to perform for the young people at our after-school club who loved getting the chance to see a real musical star in action. So many of our young people love singing and dancing too, and this will have made their Christmas.”

Home/White Christmas will be available to download from iTunes from December 16.

On November 24, Aberlour’s latest celebrity ambassador Keith Jack will take to the stage in An Evening Of Movies and Musicals at The Usher Hall, along West End Legend Ruthie Henshall. For every ticket sold, £1 will be donated to Aberlour this Christmas. If you would like to go see Keith in action, visit www.usherhall.co.uk and book tickets for one of the highlights of the Edinburgh Christmas calendar.
As an Edinburgh boy himself, Keith is particularly looking forward to the show.
Keith Jack first made his name when he came 2nd in the BBC1 Show ‘Any Dream will Do’, narrowly missing out on the leading role of Joseph in the West End production of‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’
Since then Keith has appeared as Aladdin in Aladdin at the King’s Theatre Glasgow, the title role in Peter Pan at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen and Prince in Sleeping Beauty. Keith created the lead role of Charlie in the new musical Only the Brave, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, after having completed the UK Tour of Bill Kenwright’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in which he played The Narrator.  Keith is currently in his second year in the eponymous role.
Concerts include: Performing in front of her Majesty the Queen and the Spanish Royal Family at the ‘Parliament Picnic’, The Great Scot Awards; Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards, Choices for Life 2008 & 2009 playing to over 100,000 people, Lauder Live at Thirlestane Castle, singing alongside John Barrowman in his album tour at the Hammersmith Apollo, BBC Two’s ‘Friday Night is Music Night,’ Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday concert at Hyde Park, BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ and headlining Aberdeen’s Hogmany street party 2009 with Sandi Thom and Amy Macdonald.
Since appearing on ‘Any Dream will Do’, Keith has been asked back by the BBC on several occasions including the Christmas show, ‘When Joseph met Maria’ and most recently on ‘I’d Do Anything.’
Keith has released two albums. His debut was called ‘This Time’ and went into the Top 40. His most recent album ‘An Evening at the Musicals’ was released last year and is available from his website and all download sites. For his second album Keith completed a sell out Uk Tour performing in eight major cities. Most recently he has been in New York recording the soundtrack for a film called ‘The Dreams of Kings’ which will be entered at the New York Film Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. Keith can also be heard on John Barrowman’s album, ‘Music, Music Music’. Keith has recently founded his own theatre school in Edinburgh called Gie It Laldy.

We’d like to introduce you to a very special young man who is one of Aberlour’s youngest ever fundraisers. Meet Ally Blair who lives in Dunfermline. Ally is 9 years old, making him one of our youngest fundraisers and he has now completed a five mile sponsored cycle. He decided to raise money for Aberlour because he wanted to do something nice for children who are less fortunate than him. He set out to raise £50 and has now smashed his target, by raising £125. We were so impressed we decided to send him a Certificate of Appreciation and a letter to say thank you.

Ally says: “I thought that it is sad that some children have mums and dads who don't kiss them or hug them or tuck them in to bed at night and some don't have mums or dads at all.  I just want to send big kisses and hugs to the children that are like this. I am a very lucky boy and I wanted to give money to the children that aren't so lucky by doing a 5 mile bike ride in the summer holidays and asking you all to sponsor me to collect money for the people who help them. I hope luck comes to the children that need it .”
Ally has also decided to collect some of his old books and toys so he can donate them to the children from our Sycamore Services in Fife. We think Ally is very special and we look forward to hearing about his cycle ride soon. Well done Ally!

Aberlour's special charity auction prize, which we revealed last week, is undeniably a once in a lifetime prize, however it is also important to consider exactly how life-changing your bid can be for so many children in Scotland.

The money that Aberlour receives from the auction will be going to two services; Aberlour Options - Aberdeen (formerly ADAPT) and Aberlour Family Outreach - Edinburgh.

No matter how big or small, this money will help give children the chance to grow and develop into the best person they can possibly be, and provide them with the opportunity to plan a future.

Aberlour Options - Aberdeen

Working across a number of local authorities in Aberdeenshire and the north-east, Aberlour Options - Aberdeen develop and provide individualised support services for children and young people with disabilities, complex needs and challenging behaviours.

The service provides short-breaks to the children and their families, including overnight respite, day-care and community based outreach. In addition to giving children respite care, this importantly also gives their siblings quality time with parents.

One of the children that Aberlour Options - Aberdeen helps is Josh, who recently appeared in a video for the STV Appeal.

In the video, which you can view below, Josh's mum Kerry describes him as being like a giant one-year-old. Although he has the height and strength of a 16 or 17-year old, much of the things he does are toddler-like.

Kerry explains that the respite that Aberlour Options - Aberdeen is a god-send for her and her family. It means that Josh can get some time away from home, while Kerry and the rest of the family can also have some much-needed rest.

If you want to find out more about the services that Aberlour Options - Aberdeen provide, you can phone them on 01224 714210 or email: options.aberdeen@aberlour.org.uk

Aberlour Family Outreach - Edinburgh

Aberlour Family Outreach - Edinburgh works across the city with families who are experiencing difficulties with substance use.

Working in individuals’ own homes or in community settings, the service helps and supports parents to make positive changes in their lives, which will subsequently improve family living and make it safer and healthier for them and their children.

In a recent STV Edinburgh article, which you can read here, Roxanne Telford says that Aberlour Family Outreach - Edinburgh helped her "live again".

As she discusses further: "I was really hesitant at first and I didn’t want to do it at all, but I’m so glad I did - it’s changed my life."

If you want to find out more about Aberlour Family Outreach - Edinburgh, you can phone them on: 0131 659 2942, or email at: edinburgh.outreach@aberlour.org.uk

Edinburgh Castle has long been one of the most visited attractions in Scotland, but could you imagine visiting the castle for a private tour of the Crown Jewels, guided by none other than the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond?
Well, thanks to Aberlour Child Care Trust, Scotland’s largest children’s charity, you don’t have to imagine much longer; because this exclusive tour is set to become reality thanks to our charity auction.
As well as joining Alex Salmond on a private tour of the Scottish Crown Jewels, this widely anticipated auction prize also includes light refreshments on the tour and luxury overnight accommodation, courtesy of the award winning Princes Street Suites in Edinburgh city centre.
It is also an excellent networking opportunity, as you get the enviable chance to rub shoulders with the First Minister of Scotland in unprecedented, private surroundings.
And from now until 12th October 2012, we are inviting bids for this unique auction for 5 pairs of guests or, by special request, a party of 10 people.
This is, of course, a once in a lifetime prize, however it is also important to consider exactly how life-changing your bid can be for so many children in Scotland.

The money we get, no matter how big or small, helps us rebuild the lives of some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children.
It gives them every chance to grow and develop into the best person they can possibly be, and provides them with the opportunity to plan a future.
If you want to be part of this unprecedented private tour and networking opportunity, and in turn support some of the most vulnerable children in Scotland, please submit your bids to Karen McMurrich, Director of Marketing & Fundraising, using the contact details below.

Still on a high from all the fun and frolics of our Edinburgh Strictly Come Prancing event, we are now getting excited about the impending Aberdeen leg!

Our couples have been practicing a fast and furious style of dancing known as the Lindyhop and our audience is in for a real treat. Once again, we hope that those coming along will dig deep and support our fundraising, which is all in aid of Aberlour Options – Aberdeen, which provides respite care for children and young people with disabilities.

One of the easiest ways to support us is by bidding for one of our fantastic auction prizes. With Christmas just around the corner, could one of the following lots make for a special present for a loved one?

Lot 1: Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall
Enjoy one of the most famous musical masterpieces of all time from the comfort of a VIP box at the Royal Albert Hall this Christmas.
Handel’s baroque masterpiece retells the story of Jesus’s birth and death in dramatic, operatic fashion. The majesty of the Royal Albert Hall provides the perfect setting to enjoy the concert, which features four renowned soloists and a massed choir of 500 voices. The VIP box seats five people for this performance, on Friday, December 14 at 7.30pm.

Lot 2: Cosmetic Teeth Whitening
Everyday life takes its toll on our teeth. Drinking too much tea or coffee, smoking or even eating strongly coloured foods can stain or discolour them. There are toothpastes available which will help remove these stains, but they can’t change the actual colour of the tooth underneath. Dentists can though -  by applying a bleaching agent, they can whiten the teeth giving you a sparkly white smile. For more details, visit www.queenscrossdental.com/
Donated by Queens Cross Dental Practice

Lot 3: Luxury stay at The Marcliffe
Enjoy a fantastic one night stay at the North-east’s most iconic hotel - the stunning Marcliffe Hotel & Spa in the beautiful surroundings of Royal Deeside. Dine in the Conservatory Restaurant, one of four dining areas serving some of the finest produce from the Grampian Highlands region - Aberdeen Angus beef, game, fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruit, and preserves. If the weather is pleasant, meals can be enjoyed al fresco on the south-facing patio enjoying the stunning views on offer. This package include dinner, bed and breakfast for two.
Donated by The Marcliffe Hotel & Spa

Lot 4: A Year’s Gym Membership at Hilton Treetops plus £100 of shopping vouchers towards the purchase of new gym gear
As we rapidly approach the end of the year, thoughts turn to the dreaded “New Year Resolutions”.
