To mark the launch of a unique charity event - Strictly Come Prancing Ayr - Westsound’s Jen McGinlay and celebrity businessman, Forbes Robertson recreated the famous tango scene from Jack Vettriano’s “The Singing Butler” on Ayr beach this week.
Jen and Forbes make up one of 10 Ayrshire couples who will take to the floor in aid of Aberlour, the Scottish children’s charity, on November 12 at The Princess Royal Suite, Ayr Racecourse. On the night the couples will take to the floor to each perform a tango before being judged by a celebrity panel, and then the audience itself.
The event promises to be a night of glitz, glamour and live entertainment. Tickets priced at £50 are now available and include a champagne reception, three-course meal and a live floorshow and the opportunity to vote for the Strictly Come Prancing Ayr winners.
All money raised will go to Aberlour, the largest solely Scottish children’s charity. Aberlour runs services for children across the country including one in Prestwick, which provides short-break respite care, specialist play schemes and support services for parents and carers with children affected by a range of disabilities who live in Ayrshire.
Jen McGinlay said, "I'm super excited to be asked to support this charity for children and young people, and not only that but to be able to do so in such a fun way. Aberlour make a real difference to the lives of youngsters in Scotland. All children have a right to a proper childhood no matter what their circumstances and Aberlour strive to make this happen. Corny but true; children really are our future so we owe them all the support possible to allow them to achieve their potential. Can't wait to get my sparkly shoes on....and remember keep dancing!"
Forbes is also delighted to be involved and said, “When I was asked to take part in the dancing competition for Aberlour as I felt this to be a privilege, pleasure and an honour.
Although I can't dance I will be given guidance and with a little work and a few steps from Saturday Night Fever I may become another John Sergeant or better still John Travolta.”
Aberlour fundraising executive, Sarah Nicholson, said “We are delighted to bring such a fun and memorable event to the prestigious Ayr Racecourse. At Aberlour we help those who need additional care and support to live as full a life as possible and with your help we can support many more. So why not book a table and join us for a night of fine dining and live entertainment?”
Tickets cost £50. To book, to take part as a dancer or to donate a prize, please call 0845 099 0959.
All couples will receive free ballroom dancing lessons in the run up to the event kindly sponsored by professional dancer Fiona Young.
